Customary International Law
Legal scholars spoke about the influence of international law on U.S. law and legal interpretations of treaties and customary international law. They also focused on the Alien Tort Statute of 1789 and its influence on tort law throughout the years. Among the topics addressed were suits involving human rights issues, multinational corporations, and the detention of foreign nationals. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.

Justice Scalia gave the keynote address at a forum on "Outsourcing American Law."
Justice Scalia talked about the role of international and foreign law in American judicial decision-making.He said that, "foreign legal materials can never be relevant to an interpretation of the meaning of the U.S. Constitution." Following his speech he took questions from members of the audience. There was a contentious exchange with a questioner.

International Law on the U.S. Supreme Court
The panelists debated aspects of Justice Antonin Scalia's earlier keynote address where he denied the relevance of foreign law in U.S. courts. They disagreed about the applicability of foreign law in the U.S., asking whether judges in other countries are confronted with the same questions as U.S. judges. Other points included whether U.S. issues are unique to its history and traditions and are to be resolved only through the U.S. Constitution. After their remarks the panelists answered audience members' questions.

The method of disintegration of our nation-state was a strategy of One Country, Two Systems as was the arrangement of Taiwan, China. Taiwan is and always has been a province of China. During the Communist Chinese revolution, the leaders of China (Chang Kai Shek) hopped over to Taiwan and set up his government there. In 1972, the U.S. recognized the communist government of mainland China and they recognized Taiwan as a special economic zone - administered independently of the mainland - hence, One Country, Two Systems even though that term was not used specifically.

In 1984, China and Great Britain negotiated the return of Hong Kong to the communist Chinese government. The concept of One Country, Two Systems was formally mentioned in the agreement. This concept was implemented in the United States as a way to impose the international "free trade" agenda within our domestic American borders. It was this system that I found in play in Minnesota and Idaho. I saw it first in Minnesota - and then when I saw it forming in Idaho, I went into heads down research to figure out wth was going on.
